What are "eco-friendly" sex toys? Aren't all sex toy well...pretty friendly?
There are no strict regulations on the materials used in sex toy manufacturing but some of the same chemical known as phthalates (pronounced thal-ates) used to soften platics are starting to be of concern. At first the attention was on the use of phthalates in children's toys since some studies indicate phthalates can negatively impact human health on multiple levels including our hormonal systems. So, as of February, 2009, childrenŐs toys and child care products sold in the U.S (such as teething rings and plastic books) can not contain phthalates. Of course these types chemicals can also be found in everything from shampoos to fragrances as well but as writer Lora Somoza aptly put it in her article for the Huffington Post entitled: "Why Your Pink Parts Should Go Green"
"I figure, if it's a health risk to the kiddies, then it could be a health risk to my kitty."
And even Greenpeace (yes, Greenpeace) has called on the European Union to ban the use of chemical plastic softeners in sex toys.
While we carry a full range of products at AdultSexToys.com we believe that educating consumers is the way to really impact change in the industry. We are proud to be carrying lines from manufacturers like Lelo, Tantus, Couture Toys, Fun Factory and more who all commit to manufacturing phthalate free toys and using safer materials like 100% medical grade silicone. Also on the list of eco-friendly sex toys are toys made of natural materials like glass, metal and wood and toys that are solar powered or rechargeable. All that said, eco-friendly sec toys encompass a lot more than just a glass dildo or wooden paddle and we want consumers to know that some of the hottest sex toys on the market are eco-friendly too!
Our conclusion? Maybe Kermit was wrong and it is actually easy being green!
