My boyfriend wants to go on a hike for earth day. He wants to clean up liter. Why he has turned his back on the fact that southern California is actually a mecca of eco-friendly businesses, including day spas, and that this is a perfectly legitimate way to celebrate Earth Day I do not know.Perhaps it is because of the other kind of green that those places often require. Perhaps my boyfriend is cheap.
But honestly, I don't think that is it. I think he just has eco-consiousness guilt for all the havoc we humans are wreaking on the planet and that I can understand. Still, I feel strongly that while it is fine to pick up litter in the morning by the time evening rolls around I want a relaxing, peaceful way to celebrate serene mother earth that does not involve hiking or trash.
Therefore I went shopping. This can also count as an eco-friendly activity. Really, it can. It just all depends on what you are buying. I am not trying to make myself sound like a complete bobble head here. On a very pragmatic level. I think the way consumers spend money that will effect change faster and more effectively than almost anything else in our capitalist society. In my book it is the one vote that can never be tampered with or ignored and the one that quite honestly major corporations pay attention to and create change around.
All that said, I wanted to find something pleasurable for my little Eco-hiker and I to share. I bought a chocolate vegan candle that melts into a body massage oil along with an organic coconut massage balm. (Chocolate and coconut? I couldn't resist the idea of smelling like a big Almond Joy.) And then I got what I am sure you are all expecting since I am blogging on a sex toy site today. I got an eco-friendly sex toy. O.K. I got two. One for just for me and a strap-on clit vibe to be worn with my tall, sweaty hiker.
The first toy I chose is kind of a rabbit inspired G-spot vibe called the Ina and it is by a company called Lelo. The sex toys that Lelo makes are far from cheap but it is the old adage that you get what you pay for and, uncommon in the sex toy industry, they come with a 10 year warranty, are rechargeable, the company has started to use biodegradable packaging AND their toys are all phthalate-free. What are phthalates (pronounced thal-ates)? They are the
chemicals often used to soften plastics and have been associated with having a negative impact on both human health and the environment. Sure they have other uses and are in everything from cosmetics to perfumes but hey the sex toy industry sells literally billions a year so if I really do want to have an impact on this issue it's not a bad place to start. There have also been bans placed on the use of phthalates in children's toys and honestly, there are other options for sex toy
So, a Lelo toy was an obvious choice. But aside from being eco-friendly, my friend tried one and now won't buy anything else. The word is they are THAT good.
The second toy I chose for my Earth Day/Evening celebration is the Micro Kitty. We all know (everyone who has heard of the Hite report or simply has female friends) that most women need clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm, not just penetration. Both, plus a loving partner, are pretty much the trifecta of pleasure in my book and that is where the Micro-Kitty comes in. Also, the fact that it is made of silicone and 100% phthalate free and SOLAR powered means it is definitely on the eco-friendly list! Once charged up it can run for up to 2 1/2 hours, not that I intend to need it for that long but still, nice touch Micro Kitty! And it has adjustable straps that you put each leg through so its little kitty motor is positioned every so sweetly over your clit. This means hands-free clitoral stimulation during penetration. I added some organic bubble bath to my shopping list and pretty much started to really look forward to Thursday.
So that is what I said to my Hiker, that I was really looking forward to Earth Day.
"That is the spirit!" he said, kissing me on the cheek proudly. "You are going to have such a great time with me!"
To which I just smiled and said, "I'm sure I will."
